It looks like the SBB site is going to be like this for at least another month or so. It's a pity but there's not much I can do about it. I should mention this should be hailed as a precursor to things to come. That is by this time next year most of the SBB movies will be pulled offline as a number of people's Purdue webspace will be gone(mine included). What I'm going to do then is still up in the air. I still know a few people at Purdue who might host it but that is just delaying the inevitable. I have other options of paying for hosting but that would be coming out of my own pocket. I'm debating on whether to do it or not but right now it's just now viable. But who knows, things change.
Those interested in the movies better get them while they still can. I fixed up a couple of broken links I found on that page. Also, I removed those fight links that were being hosted on space. Before I head out I just wanted to mention one more thing. My recent DVD burner accquisition has made it possible for me to burn all the AVIs onto one single DVD-R. Those interested in a copy can email me @ [email protected] for details. To make this clear, this isn't a video DVD that can be played in a regular DVD player. It's the same AVI files that you can download from the site bundled on one disc. I'm playing around with making video DVD's right now. The only problem is that regular DVD-Rs can't hold the 7 1/2 hours of all the fight footage I have. Even with lower compression it would still span a few DVD-Rs. But hey if someone is willing to pay me for the shipping, DVD-Rs, and time I'll be glad to do it. Until then, I'll experiment around see what I come up with.
So there's been a big problem at SBB as of late. As you can see this is in the only page on the site. I don't want to bog you down in technical details but needless to say I fucked up. Anyway, I left one other page up on the site here. You can download all the SBB movies from there(some of the links might not work). I'll try to get the site back up soon but it might not be until 2 months. We'll see what happens. Until then, I bid you farewell.
09/16/03: The 2003 Season movies finally get online.
Once again, let me reiterate that I'm sorry about the almost quarter year delay on the new SBB movies. Much has been going on with my life and the fact that I'm not at Purdue this semester has made it quite difficult to update the website and get the movies online. But thanks to my main man, Sam V, the movies are online now (also thanks to Amelia Barker for the webspace).
Beside that, I guess I also wanted to address the future of the SBB website. During this last update I realized how much I've began to dislike the look of the website. I've been thinking about fixing up the design to make it something less bulky. I don't know if I'm going to go through with it but I'm considering it. Either way the website will be done for by the end of next summer( when I finally graduate) unless I can find some where else to host it. I have some options I'm considering but right now it's not the most important thing on my mind. I'll keep you posted on another SBB event or any other changes.
7/02/03: New SBB movies and updates this week
Normally it wouldn't have taken me this long to get an update after a boxing event but there were some technical problems involving the camera at this years boxing event. I've just finished compressing all the videos and they will be up soon this week. As for the next SBB event, stayed tuned. Steve just recently had surgery to fix a blood clot problem and thus status of the next boxing event is up in the air.
6/17/03: SBB makes its triumphant return for a 4th season on June 22nd, 2003
That's right. You heard it. Steve's Backyard Boxing is making it's return very soon. Steve has just come back from Georgia from a working for Americorps and with him he's brought a whole lot of backyard boxing. Unfortunately, the man himself won't be able to fight due to some upcoming surgery but his spirit will be fighting nonetheless. Once again it's scheduled to take place at the regular place of 204 East High Street. There was talk of having it Jon/Ricky's new house( where the backyard shines much like the great $2.99 Grand Slam), but this rumor was immediately squashed by Mr. Chapman himself. Regardless of the place, there will be much fun had this Sunday.
4/21/03: Tragedy hits the Backyard Boxing Crew Again
I'd never figured I'd have to write about this again but I'm saddened to say that another one of our great fighters has passed on. On April 20th, Thursday we were informed that Claire Dufton was found dead along with her Godfather, Larry Blackman, and her recent boyfriend, Dennis Harrod, at Larry's house. The police report isn't conclusive yet but it appears that the cause was carbon monoxide poisoning. All of of the people of the SBB crew shocked by this tragedy.
Speaking on a more personal level, I'm still shaken up by all that's happened. Claire and I go a good number of years back and she was a dear friend to me. If you'd seen any number of the boxing footage with Claire you could tell she was very happy-go-lucky spirit. I don't think I have the words to express the essence of who Claire was. Just check out some of the fights that she had with people, they say alot more about who she was than I could. She was a person that tried to enjoy every part and person in life as much as possible.
One of our local TV stations, WAVE 3, aired a small little story about her Saturday night. I took the time to digitize the story for those who weren't able to see it. You'll probably also need the codec which you can find here
For those interested in attending, there will be a memorial service held for Claire this Tuesday, 1:00 PM @ First Christian Church of Jeffersonville, 3209 Middle Road, Jeffersonville, IN 47130. It won't be anything too formal, keeping in the spirit of Claire. It mostly will be a place for people to come together share many things about her. Anyone that has been deeply saddened by the loss of her is welcome to show up and share what they'll miss most about her.
I know the site has been a bit on the decline as I haven't been able to work on it because of time issues. I've fixed anything that might have been broken recently, I've updated Claire's profile to include another email address(one that Claire used to use and her mom has access to now, so if you want tell a story, leave a message for Claire, or whatever you'd like to say to her), and I've added a new section for our 2 fighters that have passed on. It isn't much but I realize that it's impossible to capture the total spirit of a person with words alone. The best thing I can do is just say what I got to say and leave it at that. I know that our lost backyard boxing fighters will live on through their fights and the memories of the people they knew.
Love ya Claire...
2/04/03: Long Time, No Update
All the SBB movies are back online. Sorry it took so long to update but as I've said before, the maintance of the SBB site is alot lower on my prorities compared with other stuff. I still get the occasional email regarding the what and when of the next SBB event. As of right now, it's status is the same it's always been during this part of the year: On hiatus until summer, if summer. Right now, Steve is currently a resident of the state of Georgia and he's having his own set of adventures. I believe he's coming back to Jeffersonville sometime this summer so that leaves the way open for a 2003 SBB season. If that happens, you'll be the first to hear about it on the site. Til then it's just wait and see what happens...
